SIDEQUEST BINGO

Photo-bingo game for friend groups and events — claim challenge squares with photo proof, friends' photos stay locked until you post your own, and the whole album unlocks when the board ends. Web app, PWA and native iOS app, built solo in about a week.

THE PROBLEM

Group trips, birthdays and office parties generate photos nobody looks at and challenges nobody tracks. The dares live in a group chat, the photos in six camera rolls, and nothing ties them together.

WHAT I BUILT
  • The game itself. A host writes a grid of dares, friends join by link, and each square is claimed with photo proof. Everyone else's photo on a square stays hidden — only a blurred teaser shows — until you post your own, enforced on the server so it can't be bypassed, and the whole album unlocks only when the board ends.
  • A Next.js web app and PWA plus a native iOS app, sharing one API, one backend and one design system. Scoring is fully derived from posts and timestamps, so it can never go out of sync.
  • A video pipeline: a background worker converts every upload into a web-friendly video, poster, thumbnail and blurred teaser.
  • A static marketing site with 18 occasion landing pages generated at build time from the same 1,080-square challenge pool the app runs on, so marketing and product can never drift — with structured data for search engines on every public page.
  • A separate admin console with a human moderation queue, and sign-in with email code, Google or Apple.
OUTCOME

Built solo, with AI coding agents doing much of the implementation, reviews and copy. The app and the website were working end to end in about a week; most of the remaining time before launch was spent waiting on Apple's App Store review. The iOS app is now live in the App Store.
